Morbi
The stretch from Morbi to Wankaner, and out along the Lakhdhirpur, Ghuntu and Jambudia roads, is lined with ceramic plants: vitrified, wall and floor tiles, sanitaryware and the suppliers that serve them. It is one of the largest tile-making clusters in the world, and it grows plant by plant, with new kilns, press lines and warehouses added every year. Morbi is also known for its wall-clock makers, a much older trade.
Ceramic plants are power-hungry and run continuously. New lines need substations, E-Houses and panel rooms, operator cabins beside presses and kilns, quality labs and stores. Each expansion brings contractors and a large workforce, so site offices, labour camps, toilet blocks and gate cabins are needed quickly and in numbers.
From Umbergaon, Morbi is reached by road through Ahmedabad and on towards Kutch. Plants are on flat, open plots with good trailer access, which makes delivery and lifting simple to plan; the main thing to agree is timing, so the structure arrives when the foundation and crane are ready.
