Nellore was long known for rice and aquaculture, but its coast has changed. Krishnapatnam port handles coal, containers and bulk cargo, several large thermal power stations stand on the coast around it, and the Krishnapatnam node of the Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor is being developed across thousands of acres nearby. Further north, a new port is under construction at Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district.
Port, power and corridor projects need structures at every stage: site offices, labour camps, toilet blocks, stores and security cabins while they are built; E-Houses, control rooms and operator cabins when they run. Nellore is on the coastal NH16 between Vijayawada and Chennai. From Umbergaon, modules travel by road either through Hyderabad and Vijayawada or through Bengaluru and Tirupati, depending on the load. The coast is hot, humid and cyclone-prone, so corrosion protection and anchorage come first.
