Pilgrims come to Puri for the Jagannath temple and the Rath Yatra; holidaymakers come for the long beach on the Bay of Bengal. The Marine Drive runs north along the coast to Konark and its sun temple, past Chandrabhaga and quieter beach villages, and to the south-west lies Chilika Lake, with dolphin-watching at Satapada. Hotels, resorts, homestays and beach cafés have spread along this whole stretch.
Building on this coast is demanding. Salt air attacks steel and fixings, the monsoon is heavy, and cyclones — Fani made landfall at Puri in 2019 — can strip roofs and flatten weak structures. Much of the shoreline falls under coastal regulation rules, and the heritage setting at Konark adds its own controls. Prefabrication helps: galvanised light gauge steel frames, insulated panels and finished interiors are made in the factory and installed in a short dry-season window, with properly engineered anchorage.

When should we build on the Puri coast?
In the drier months, roughly November to April, avoiding the monsoon and the cyclone-prone periods around it. Factory work can run through the rains so installation is short.
