Prefab Cottages & Site Cabins in Andaman and Nicobar

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands can only be reached by sea. We build resort cottages, site offices, labour accommodation and E-Houses in Umbergaon and plan each island project around the voyage, the permits and the sensitive ground it will stand on.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The islands lie far out in the Bay of Bengal, and almost everything built there arrives by ship. Sri Vijaya Puram, formerly Port Blair, is the administrative and commercial centre. Tourism draws most private building — resorts, cottages and cafés on Swaraj Dweep (Havelock), Shaheed Dweep (Neil) and around South Andaman — while roads, jetties, water supply, power and public buildings keep government contractors busy across the chain, and large development is planned on Great Nicobar.

Building here asks a lot of a structure. The islands sit in India's highest seismic zone, the Bay of Bengal brings cyclones and a long, heavy monsoon, and salt air works on every exposed piece of steel. Much of the land is forest, coastal regulation zone or tribal reserve, so what can be built, and where, is closely controlled. Light, prefabricated structures suit these conditions: little wet work, a small crew and a short time on site.

Nothing about an island project is routine. Modules or flat-packed panel and light gauge steel kits travel by road from Umbergaon to a mainland port — usually Chennai, Kolkata or Visakhapatnam — and then by sea to the islands, with further inter-island transfer where needed. We plan module size, packing, shipping and on-site assembly case by case with you.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Can you deliver prefab structures to the Andaman Islands?

Yes, planned case by case. Structures travel by road from our Umbergaon factory to a mainland port, usually Chennai, Kolkata or Visakhapatnam, and then by sea to Sri Vijaya Puram, with inter-island transfer where needed. Share your site and schedule early so we can plan the shipment around sailings and port handling.

Is it better to ship finished modules or flat-packed kits to the islands?

It depends on the site. Finished modules save work on the island but need crane handling at both ports and on site; flat-packed panel or light gauge steel kits pack densely, move more easily and are assembled by a small crew. We recommend the approach once we know the location and access.

What permits apply to building in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands?

Coastal regulation rules, forest land, tribal reserves and restricted areas all apply in parts of the islands, and permanent structures need local planning approval. Your consultant should confirm what applies to your plot. We provide drawings and specifications to support the application.

How do you design for earthquakes and cyclones on the islands?

The islands are in India's highest seismic zone and exposed to Bay of Bengal cyclones. Light steel structures perform well when properly anchored, and we detail frames, fixings and roof connections for the loads your structural engineer specifies, with galvanised steel and coated finishes for salt air.
